Contents: In 1939 the Book Club of California issued this series on a bi-monthly basis. Each booklet is a reprint of a short story that took place in California or had California as part of its theme. They were then all housed in a slip case with a portfolio. The series consists of the following:
The Gentleman in the Barrel by Chester Bailey Fernald
The Case of Summerfield by W.H. Rhodes
Orso by Henry Sienkiewicz
The Ape and the Idiot by W.C. Morrow
My Day in the Wilderness by Helen Hunt Jackson
One story, The Trumpet Comes to Pickeye, is missing from this series. Instead this collection contains, The Hold-Up by Stewart Edward White. The Hold-Up was part of the 1937 Contemporary California Short Stories series.
