This dresser scarf or table mat is very old (1920s-1930s) but in great condition. It is all linen, rectangular in shape, and cross-stitch embroidered in a colonial flower motif. The edge is machine lace. The linen and lace are light tan.The edge is worked into the linen.
This is part of a large estate lot of linens I acquired a few months ago. They appear to be by the same hand. This is an interesting exception to the lot. The stitches are not as perfect, the choice of colors not as sophisticated. If I had to guess I would say this is either an early piece by the maker who later perfected her craft, or her efforts to teach her daughter the art. Nevertheless a nice piece for your antique linen collection. It is 11 x 16 inches. One tiny mark that shouldn't be there.
