Vintage, primitive, wooden 'whats-it'.
I at first though it was the bottom of a boat or ship model.
Then, I was told, it was for weaving, on a loom,.to seperate the warp & weft
If you know better, let me know.
It measures 16 in. long.
The widest part, on the bottom, curved, flat area, is 2 & 7/8 in.
On the higest point, dead center, it is 2 & 1/4 in. high, at one side.
This is measured on the side of the open square that is not chipped & worn.
It has an open section that is 6 & 5/16 by 2 & 7/16 in.
The square is 1 & 7/8 in. deep, from inside.
The 'walls' on the sides of the rectangular square are 3/16 in. thick.
The wood is very hard, and dark, like oak.
There are pin holes on either side of the thin walls.
These pinholes probably weakened the wood, so a chip came out.
Maybe stress from some kind of needles ?
It weighs almost a pound.
It is from an estate.
I still think it would make a great boat or ship model. ... [full description] |
