The leather covered boards are soft; they show shelf-wear on the bottom and there's evidence of a possible crease having happened to the bottom corner of the front board. Under that same area, inside, the backing has separated from the board (about 2" along the outer and bottom edges).
The first, of three, unprinted pages at the beginning has hand-written notes.
The top of, perhaps, half of the pages seems to show evidence of contact with moisture; but the effect on the pages was actually minimal, though visible, down no more than 1/4 inch from the top of the pages.
All the thumb tabs are in fine shape.
The colors of illustration plates are vibrant.
The paper is quite bright and all printing crisp. We found no highlighting and no underlining on the pages.
Author: Harold Jones, Normand Hoerr & Arthur Osol, editors
"A modern comprehensive dictionary of the terms used in all braches of medicine and allied sciences, including medical physics and chemistry, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, veterinary medicine, zoology and botany, as well as medicolegal terms; with illustrations and tables"- and from the Preface -"Blakiston's New Gould Medical Dictionary is a completely new reference work. Based upon Gould's Medical Dictionary, which through many editions since 1890 has carried on the tradition of scholarship laid down by the first editor, this new work reflects, much more accurately and thoroughly than could a mere revision, the advances of recent years in the various fields of medicine and the allied sciences."
