Activision sends gamers scrambling for rocket launchers again with DOOM 3, a continuation of the popular first-person shooter series that began with the original DOOM. This time, a space marine must single-handedly (or with a partner in the new co-op mode) save the Mars Research Facility from the rampaging forces of hell. DOOM 3 is what players have come to expect from the DOOM series: explosive, furious shoot-and-kill levels filled with power ups, weapons, and murderous hell-spawn. There are 32 levels to the Mars Research Facility, each one progressively more difficult. New enemies, new weapons, and a sci-fi storyline will keep players fighting through the entire facility. Amazing and at times frightening graphics, a staple of the DOOM series, are back in full force with this game. The co-op mode is new to DOOM 3. In it, any single-player campaign can instantly become a team mission as another players marine is added to the game. Players can switch to co-op mode at any point in the game, making it easier to get past some of the more difficult levels. Adding a partner changes the game a bit: some dialogue is deleted, other dialogue is modified, and there are more enemies and power ups available. For parties of more than two, deathmatch and multiplayer mode via Xbox Live are also available. DOOM fans, grab this game. Gamers who havent heard of DOOM, give it a shot. What better way to relax after work than by blowing up demons?
Full versions of both the original DOOM and DOOM II are included, giving players who missed them the first time around the chance to play both the single-player missions or join three others in a split-screen deathmatch. Also included is a behind the scenes feature, computer icons, interviews with the development team, and art galleries.
