Hello. I spent nearly 10 years selling on that other site (you can check my feedback there; It's under the same ID as this one; over 3200 positives, 99.7%). But I thought I'd give this new site a try.
Like all of my cds, this is an Original CD, with original inserts (NO CD-Rs or bootlegs).....
San Francisco's The Cave-Ins actually do really sound like Television. Though it was The Strokes that received a truckload of attention for their NYC Cool sound, they never and still don't sound anything like Tom Verlaine's band. Gridfarce By Lamplight is what Marquee Moon must have sounded like back in 1977. Though it can't be considered very fresh or original, this record is a fantastic, similar take on Television's creatively slow not-punk-but-what-else-do-you-call-it sound. There are some other obvious influences on this record like Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers and The Beach Boys, and that just makes it stronger. Gridfarce sounds so lethargic and unenthusiastic that it's a completely spectacular piece of music to hear. The singing sounds like they couldn't be arsed, the organs sound like they're dying and the handclaps sound half asleep. "Mystic Mayo" appears to be The Velvet Underground's long lost classic (complete with an exact Lou Reed impersonation on the mic) and "Bring It Down" appears to be the same, another lost VU classic. Don't let the inspirations discourage you, The Cave-Ins are the next great band in the U.S. waiting to be discovered, and you should already know them by now. A.
With one 7" out on Omnibus and an appearance on the From Visalian With Love CD compilation, The Cave-Ins have been slowly climbing the ladder of local humiliation and stardust. Mixing a seemingly pre-programmed conservatism with reverb and a select sub-set of jazz chords, The Cave-Ins sound like the peaceful thoughts one might have whilst floating in an innertube along an ebb of molten lava, procrastinating and unchangable. Through their intense knowledge of harmony and gift for insignificant metaphors, The Cave-Ins follow their instincts towards a greater goal: one of self purification and escape from emotional larceny. Influences: Johnny Smith, Television, The Kinks, Neil Young and The Hawaiian Landfills. The Cave-Ins, in different forms, have toured for two consecutive summers with one ending in disaster and the other chained in the catacombs of the Northwest (future tours pending). Other future release plans include: "Balancing Act"- a collection of misplaced solo recordings and "Abstract Christmas"- their full length follow up to their debut. Luke Top is also planning to release a solo record on Kittridge Records (March 2002) to be titled either "Sparce Souvenirs" or "Sparce Afterthoughts," he can't decide. "Gridfarce by Lamplight" is a heterogeneous ride through an obvious factory of organized literature, periodicals and sub-glances; but one that is forcefully goodnatured by way of its naive intuition.
USED, but in great condition. NO scratches and NO signs of abuse or misuse.
