You are looking at a genuine vintage 'cast' English horse brass dating to the early 1900s. This brass measures just over three and a half inches high by three and a quarter inches wide, and depicts the 'three feathers' emblem of the Prince of Wales. Showing nice harness wear and patina, this is a very nice collectible example of it's type.
NOTES ON HORSE BRASSES
Horse brasses have been made from the late 18th. century onwards, and are still being made today. This makes it difficult for the new collector to distinguish modern copies from the genuine old ones, but one way to get a good idea if a brass is genuine or not is to look at the back of it. The back should show signs of 'harness wear' caused by the brass having been rubbing on the leather for many years, and also have a brown, ranging to black patina which develops with age.
