Here is your chance to add one of Royal Doulton's rare classical figures, Falstaff HN2054.
This fine model of the Shakespearian character Falstaff was designed by C. J. Noke in the early 1920s. This version was issued between 1950 and 1992 and measures 7" tall.
The Shakespearean character Sir John Falstaff is a fictional character who appears in three plays by William Shakespeare. Falstaff was a witty, jovial old knight and amusing companion to Henry IV son, Hal.
Round and glorious, tradition holds that Shakespeare wrote the part for his second comedian, a fat man, John Heminge, who played a bold, bawdy humor of a John Candy sort. An alternative theory is that Falstaff was written for Will Kemp, the clown of Shakespeare's company.
This a well sculpted figure. Falstaff is exquisitely detailed and has wonderful vivid colors. Falstaff is wearing a pink shirt which his ample belly has stretched to the garment's limits. He has a cape which has been caught by the wind. On his hands he wears gauntlet gloves and has a belt and buckle as well as a sash. The sash carries his sabre at his side. He is wearing tall, thigh height boots. Behind Falstaff is a pink and blue wicker chest which is partially covered by a cloth. The folds of the fabric pool around his feet.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks, crazing, restorations or flaws of any kind. Copyright is 1949 and made in England before they moved their production out of the country. Our Royal Doulton is first grade and first quality from Royal Doulton England .
