It is with a minimum of enthusiasm that Inspector Ben Jurnet agrees to attend a concert of the rock group Second Coming with his fiancee, Miriam, who has miraculously obtained tickets. If nothing else, he will find out what all the fuss is about. But to the inspector's surprise, he is caught up in the music, and especially in the charisma of the lead singer, Loy Tanner, a hometown boy who's made good. Still entranced, he is shocked the next morning when the body of Loy Tanner is found hanging from a cross in Angleby Market Place garden.
