I don't know how many of these you will find... It's a framed Appreciation Speech/Poem, written by J. Fred Lawton, presented to Louie Hyde by the U of M Club of Detroit on July 41, 1958! I don't believe this is the actual one presented to Louie Hyde, but this may be a copy of the presentation that was handed out and someone had the great foresight to preserve it within a frame. Louie Hyde, one of U of M's greatest fans was President and Chairman of the Alumni Club affairs.
Here's an excerpt of what it says:
THE LOUIE HYDE STORY, by J. Fred Lawton II
It happened on December sixth in eighteen ninety three
At Joliet, in Illinois, historians agree.
A father handed out cigars, the neighbors smiled with joy,
And all because the Hyde's had just received a brand new boy.
The Doctor said, "This infant yells just like a College Man,
Some day he'll yell for Illinois, or maybe Michigan."
None could foresee this baby nestled by his mother's side,
As Mich'gans future workhorse - steadfast loyal Louis Hyde!
Is this not one of the greatest University of Michigan's momento's, not just of U of M, but Louie Hyde?!?!
This measures (with frame) 24" x 19".
This would be a wonderful gift for the UofM collector!
