Myrtlewood is a very slow growing hard wood fir. Here is a vintage box from The Wooden Nickle in Port Orford, Oregon. The box is shaped and polish and the highlight is a very finely inscribed bird on a branch adorning the lid. This is so finely done my first thought was that it was a sanded down knot in the wood. Keep turning the lid till you see it.
The box has a base diameter of 4½ inches and a circumference of 16 inches at the widest point. This would be a great box to use as a coin catcher on a man's dresser or a paper clip holder on a desk.
