This anchor is set-up like a triangle. Why? More options for clipping-in and to minimize the risk of shockloading one of the bolts of the other blows. With a typical anchor, if you're clipped in closely to a bolt that blows, you're going to fall twice the length of the chain and shockload the remaining bolt. Not to mention, really jar you in your static webbing & harness. With the added cross-bar of chain, you are more likely to either: swing rather than drop OR drop only the length of the cross-bar. This reduces the amount of force exerted on the remaining bolt. Lastly, the cross-bar prohibits the bolts from being placed too far apart, which can actually multiply the forces on your anchor bolts. Rated to 24kN.
