Spectacular display! Stunning shrub species that can reach 15 ft tall and 10 ft wide to form a lovely small multi branched tree at maturity. Dark green bracts slowly expand, become a beautiful creamy white that sometimes fades to deep pink. Mute red berries look like raspberry gumballs. Gorgeous scarlet autumn foliage.
Produces flowers on last year's growth so think twice when pruning as you are pruning out your next years' flowers. You can easily see forming flowers as small rounded green disks with four tiny triangular green bracts so you know in advance of the display. This subspecies has larger flowers than the regular C. kousa species. Drought tolerant when established. Suitable for containers and bonsai.
