Women wore sash brooches at the waist from the late Victorian through Edwardian periods. They accented small waists on a fabric belt. Now they are worn on dresses, lapels--even to dress up purses. They can even be worn to elegantly hold a scarf in place.
This warmly patinated gilt brooch measures 2 5/8" wide and is engraved with flowers and tendriling leaves.
