Also known as Elephant Hip Banana, Ensete glaucum is a non-offsetting banana and possibly the hardiest of it's species being hardy to zone 8-10, zone 7 if protected. This plant originates from high altitude Himalayas and is accustomed to cooler regions. The fruit is edible and sweet with hard pulp but has several 1/2 inch large seeds. The gorgeous, huge, glaucous leaves are architectural and decorative, great for the tropical borders or large containers. It produces a massive pendulous flower head that's 1 foot wide and several feet long. Grows quickly to 10 feet in one season.
