Description: Interesting vintage marriage and sex education booklet published prior to World War II. On the front cover, the contents are described as:
"SOUND, simple, practical, and detailed information about the sex relationship in marriage. Widely used and recommended by physicians, pastors, educators, psychiatrists, social workers, personal counsellors and parents generally."
The inside of the front cover includes a list of "prominent institutional users", including the Motherhood Advice Bureau (Margaret Sanger's Clinic), the Denver Maternal Hygiene Committee, the Union Theological Seminary, and the Colorado Society for Mental Hygiene.
A list 12 items of "Married Wisdom" includes such advice as: "Never speak loudly to one another, unless the house is on fire."
The booklet begins with a short section entitled, "What Is Marriage?", consisting of "The Social Test of Marriage", "The Economic Test", and "The Biological Test". Additional sections have titles such as "What a Married Couple Should Know", "Love and Sexual Intercourse", "The Sex Organs of a Woman", "A Man's Sex Organs", "Diagram of Female Sex Organs", Diagram of Male Sex Organs", "The Sexual Nature in Man and Woman", "Removing Fears", "Exploring the Mysteries of Marriage", "The Preparation", "Sexual Tension", "Overcoming Frigidity and Lack of Orgasm", "Artificial Releases", "The Frequency of Sexual Intercourse", "Planning for a Child", and "Some Hindrances to Pregnancy".
All in all, an interesting look at what was apparently the leading edge of sex education in the 1930s.
Publisher: EMERSON BOOKS, Inc., New York - Revised Edition, 1936
Condition: Very good, I'd say. The entire booklet is still firmly bound with two staples. The covers are lightly soiled with just a bit of roughness around the edges. The interior pages are in great shape. The upper right corner is a bit creased and the lower right corner is just slightly bent There are no tears or extraneous markings.
