Contents: This book is a series of lectures on optics delivered by the author at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, at Christmas, 1896. Indexed.
Published in both Great Britain (by Macmillan and Co.) and the United States (by The Macmillan Company) in 1897. The British edition was in a blue binding and the US edition in maroon. Both publishers designated later printings with notations on the copyright page, which this copy does not have. Also, the date on the title page matches the date on the copyright page which is another way Macmillan designated their first editions. Not knowing whether the British or US edition was published first (though I would assume the British) I can't say for sure if this is the true First or the First American.
