The book contains a full compliment of instructional direction for learning to play the piano at a beginning level of expertise.
The following is a transcription of the Preface written by the author:
__In publishing this Piano-Method I have purposely omitted a great many elaborate explanations and topics which, in my opinion, are out of place in a work of this kind. Through years of experience I have learned that it is impossible for a child to grasp all of the rules usually given in such instruction-books—rules which he cannot understand, and for which he has hardly any use until after a year or more of study. While theoretically they appear correct, practically they are valueless.
__It is left to the judgment of the teacher to add such explanations as he may deem necessary.
__It has been my endeavor to make this Piano-Method as short as is compatible with thoroughness. With few exceptions, current methods include studies and pieces quite outside the true boundaries of such works. Any child who has grasped the principles of time, who can read notes, and knows the difference between legato and staccato, etc., etc., should discard a "method," and instead continue study with the aid of special works, which are so numerous and contain such an abundance of good material. Study from various books affords the pupil variety, and stimulates ambition in a manner impossible of attainment when a cut-and-dried method is religiously followed: and individualization in teaching—the keynote of modern pedagogy—is assured by the free choice of the judicious instructor.

Condition_____Well Used_____Not Collectible___Of Interest & Still Usable
I have owned this book since 1980 and has always been stored smoke-free in all of that time. The book is free of any odor.
Considerable wear to entire exterior with writing in pencil on the front cover and a stain on the back cover(see images). The page corners are not sharp, but are indeed worn soft. Pages are age-toned throughout.
The spine binding has essentially entirely detached from the cloth cover—some pages are loosed, but none are missing. There are only a few pages that have corner creases (¼" diagonally) at the top. Only one page has a tear at the bottom.
There are some light pencil notations in red and graphite. You might be able to erase these, but I'm going to leave it 'as is'.
