Jeens and in-text illustrations from drawings by Professor Delamotte includinge nine full page art plates. 422 pages with (2) pp. Advertisement for 'A Handbook to the Public Picture Galleries of Europe' by Kate Thompson.
This history of Florence approaches the subject from the prominant people involved in the early development of this famous and beautiful Italian city. The sub-title "Dante, Giaotto, Savonarola and Their City" is indicative of this intent, but others, such as Michel Angelo, feature prominantly as does the city's art, architecture, sculptures and scenery. The book concludes with the death of Michel Angelo in 1564 having covered the progess of Florence from the time of Dante (1265-1321), thereby including its time of great classical advances.
Overall Condition: A good copy with a cracked front hinge and moderate wear to boards with a wrinkle on front and corners rubbed through. Ex-library,Bookplates on black pastedowns, due date paste-in and old paper label on spine. Spine cloth is worn at edges; spine cracked in two places near mid-book; Very clean pages with no foxing but slight spotting from the front free end paper to title page and also at back. Very few small isolated pencil marks. Tissue guard is well tanned.= see picture; more images upon request.
