Description:
This is a Qing Dynasty Blue and white with Under-glaze-red Water Chestnut shaped vase. Its design is very classical.compact belly, contracting slowly to a short, straight neck, the entire form decorated in a sea of deep, blue and white dragons through Underglaze-red clouds. From the typical and the painting skills,we can find that it is an article of Qing Dynasty. The painting skill is mellifluent and compact, the color is dense and cascading, which is typical early Qing Dynasty style. The seal on the bottom states"Made In the Year of Yong Zheng in Qing Dynasty".
You Li Hong, also named Under-glazed red, stemmed from the purple red spot glaze of Song Dynasty Jun kiln. It may decorate alone and may be used with the blue, red pigment (this decoration is called Blue and White Under glazed Red). The color of Underglazed red is stable. In the traditional customs of our country, this color is usually used for the symbol of propitious peace and happiness and thriving, which is the characteristic traditional art. Because under-glazed red has the strict calcining condition and the firing range is narrow, comparing to the blue-and-white it is much tenderer. Therefore its variety, output and the influence was inferior to the blue and white porcelain. But it made people feel splendid just like that kind of ruby which the blue and white don't. In addition, the difficulty of firing, "when a thing is rare, it becomes precious which causes ", always leads it is very precious all through the ages. In Chinese traditional custom, red is frequently the representative of propitious riches and honor, and underglazed red assumes the color to be steady, honest, both grand and simple, which is the factor of the people are joyful to use them.
