This series of volumes was prepared under the direction of Frédéric Louis Godet (1812-1900) , a great Swiss Reformed theologian and exegete . After university studies in Neuchâtel , his hometown , and Bonn and Berlin , he became chaplain to the king of Prussia, and tutor of the Crown Prince , the future Emperor Frederick William . Pastor for fifteen years (1851-1866) , Frederic Godet is also professor of biblical exegesis in Neuchâtel (1851-1873) and , thereafter , it will be at the Evangelical Free School in the same city (1873-1887 ) .
It is among the most influential Reformed scholars of his time, and his writings are still published today in several languages. He defended orthodox Christianity against the liberalism of the Protestant theologians of his time. His life was marked by a deep personal piety and a great knowledge of the Word of God.
This series reveals that it dates sometimes , going back about 126 years . But like its counterpart does not exist today in French , it may be more useful for any student of the Old Testament.
