His doll heads were made by Simon & Halbig, which was a company that consistently made high quality dolls.This 22 inch doll is certainly no exception. This antique German bisque head dolly faced doll is lovely to look at. She has such a wonderful expression!This particular doll was made for a famous American department store known as Gimbel Brothers. Gimbel Brothers started in 1887. Gimbels was once the largest department store chain in the country. By the time of its closure in 1987, Gimbel had 36 stores throughout the United States. Gimbels was a big competitor of Macy's and even had a location near them in NYC at Herald Square.This sweet doll has brown glass eyes, molded, brown feathered eyebrows, an open mouth with 4 teeth, pierced ears and a jointed composition body. She is wearing a beautiful auburn/brown mohair wig with long curls. Her body is marked Gimbel Bros. Germany. The back of her head is marked Germany-Simon & Halbig Heinrich Handwerck 3.Her antique outfit is wonderful! I do not know if it is original to her but it fits her like it was made for her. It consists of a wool navy blue sailor top with matching skirt and burgundy tie around her neck that is made of knit. The wool on her outfit does have some tiny holes here and there. Underneath her dress is her original cotton full slip. I have added the crocheted cap with flowers and ribbons. It appears to be old or vintage. She is wearing newer black French style pointy toed tie shoes with newer diamond patterned socks. Her condition is very good with the exception of some wig pulls on her head and slight wig glue remnants where her original wig once was. Her glass eyes once slept, but now they are set stationary with plaster. Her body has typical wear associated with age which includes paint flaking, wear to the joints, paint wear and her hands may have been repainted at one time.This doll is in need of a good home and is waiting to be adopted by a wonderful new owner.
