  • Description
A collection of 11 short stories, privately published as Christmas keepsakes in the "Animal Friends at Scrivelsby" series, will delight everyone who appreciates the subtlety of cats, the loyalty of dogs, and the appealeing attributes of rabbits, cows, pigs, beavers and other creatures.

In the title story, Little Cat expresses her thoughts onsuch issues as The Jealous Feline, Bringing the Wood Pile Down, Concentrated Sensuousness, Dominating the Dog, and Eating the House Plants. "I dislike male chauvinism," she observes, "But what is chauvinism in the male something else in the female: it's our natural right...What our male detractors call fickleness we cats call interaction. Another name for it is knowing which can the tuna is in."

The author, Marshall E. Dimock, had a political career in Vermont, Washington and with the United Nations. These stories were inspired by the animals on his farm in Vermont. Illustrations are by George Shortmeier.

Published by The Countryman Press, Taftsville, Vermont in 1970. This copy was printed in 1977. Hardcover green cloth covered boards with gold imprint on the spine. Dust jacket is not price-clipped. Condition is mint except for some sun fading on the dust jacket. No tears or writing in the book. 158 pages.

On Addall.com this printing is assumed to be a first edition. This is not my understanding as it has a stated copyright of 1970. However there are only 3 copies listed there and all are from 1977. I bought this book in a Vermont shop while on an antiquing trip in the late 70s.
