This is Staying on Top When Your World Turns Upside Down by Kathryn D. Cramer, Ph.D.. Copyright Viking, 1990. Not price-clipped.

"Rough weather makes good timber." This simple adage from Appalachia is the guiding principle in Dr. Kathryn Cramer's powerful book. Believing that you can increase physical stamina, build self-confidence, and gain personal satisfaction even during times of devastating change, Dr. Cramer offers the help you need in getting through the major changes no one can escape - such as job change, divorce, or the death of a loved one.

Her reaction to the tragic loss of her brother when he was a senior in college changed the course of Dr. Cramer's life, inspiring her to make stress management the center of her life's work. Now, combining her own personal experience with more than fifteen years of corporate and individual stress consultation, she shows you how to overcome the negative effects of dramatic life changes and stay on top.

A traumatic event often robs you of the resources you need to maintain your health, productivity, and relationships, setting off a chain reaction that spirals out of control. With Dr. Cramer's carefully devised four-stage system, you'll discover how to short-circuit this spiral and move from shock, confusion, and anger to acceptance, mastery, and growth. Self-test questionnaires, quizzes, and charts, as well as advice on journal writing and on-going self-evaluation, are included to help you along the way.

Staying on Top When Your World Turns Upside Down not only provides a sound, straightforward method for recovering from cataclysmic setbacks, but demonstrates how life's trauma's can be turned into forces for positive change. It is the one guide that shows you how to come out on top when your world turns upside down."
