"British troops enters the Acropolis. "L" Squadron, Special Boat Service, werethe first British personnel to enter Athens. A British Army Film unit cameraman was with theparty of troops which boarded a Greek caique and entered Athens late at night on 13th October1944. At this time, the last German troops were leaving, and the people of Athens were not awareof Athens, where llife was as yet normal. Street cleaners were at work, and the first workerswere on the streets, but otherwise there was no sign of life. When in the following days themain body of the British troops arrived in Athens, the welcome they received was vastly differentto that experienced by the advanced patrol.
