COMMENT ON TRADITIONAL BIRDCAGES IN TUNISIA:
The cage is made of wrought iron, usually combined with olive or pine wood. The 2 curved protruding part below, right and left, reflect the lovely traditional Tunisian house windows that one can open to let birds in. A kind of "pregnant window" if we may say so ! It usually has one dome, one door (the pregnant window) and one perch.
By the way, there is a well-known exotic village in Tunisia, called Sidi Bou Said, close to Carthage in the north-east, with typical white houses and blue windows (in the shape of the birds' cage) closed inside by wooden louver shutters.The cage is simply called Cage of Sidi Bou Said, after the village.
