Gold and Red Ganesh Sitting 14cm
This beautiful seated gold and red Ganesha is four armed and has his trunk to his left side, this is known as Edamuri Vinayaka or Vamamukhi. This is the common form of Ganesh idol that people buy for their pooja (Puja) spiritual prayer and meditation rooms. The left side pertains to the to the North direction - the Chandra Nadi; this relates to bliss and tranquility a great boon to any home. Lord Ganesha in this pose is know to be calm, blissful and in a happy mood. This statue is very symbolic to many, especially to the Hindu faith.
Another noticeable element is Ganesha's broken tusk; there are several tellings of how this occurred. The broken tusk happened because of Krishna throwing his axe at Ganesha after he blocked his entrance to the private rooms of his parents Shiva and Parvati. Ganesha allowed the axe to hit and break his tusk so that no-one could say that the axe (which was in fact his father's), was not a fearsome weapon. Yet another but more simple explanation of Ganesha's broken tusk, was that he snapped it off in order to transcribe the epic poem Mahabharata, dictated by the sage Vyasa who wished to preserve the story for all time. This version does, however, explain Ganesha's association with writers and intellectuals.
