Grandma Moses is the art ""find"" of the 20th century. Years ago the eighty-six-year-old woman was selling her pictures at county fairs, exhibiting them along with her jellies and preserves. The price of a Grandma Moses then varied with the size of the canvas, but you could buy a fairly large one for five dollars. By classification the pictures are primitives. Grandma Moses is untaught, indeed, she did not start painting until she was past the age when most people have retired.
