eCRATER Somfy Digital Network™ (SDN) RS485 Motor Limit Setting & Address Reader Tool PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The RS485 SETTING TOOL is a handy tool developed to ease settings of Somfy RS485 products. Intelligent motors and controls for large scale shading projects The Somfy Digital Network (SDN) is the latest generation of bus-line enabled Intelligent Tubular Motors and Smart Switch Controls. The SDN components are integrated into a cost effective system designed to operate a wide range of end products such as solar screens, projection screens and Venetian blinds over a standard RS-485 network. The SDN system is a standard half duplex, bi-directional RS-485 network. Bi-directional communications makes it possible to receive feedback from each motor on the network. This allows the system to view the position and status of any motor on the network, in real time. Since the SDN network runs over standard network architecture, it is possible to establish a remote connection to the system from anywhere internet access is available. This defines a new level of commissioning and support services that can be offered for today's energy efficient Intelligent Building. Digital controls for blinds or projection screens can be based on a computer or a touch-screen device that is linked to a digital bus such as RS-485. The motors are linked to the bus through various interfaces. Digital controls provide the convenience of a multi-application system: in hotels, conference rooms and luxury residences it ensures precision control of Audio/Video equipment, indoor temperature (heating and air conditioning), artificial lighting… The Somfy Digital Network is offered in a “Stand-alone” option or using a fully automated control called animeo® IP. For an easy and optimum ergonomics, the tool has a display (2 lines of 16 characters) and 9 buttons. The wiring with products to set is realized with an RJ45 fast connector. The tool is an RS485 master type product; it communicates through the Somfy Digital wired protocol (DTS). To be compatible with future RS485 Somfy products (slaves), the tool’s software can be uploaded through the RS485 connection, to implement new profiles. Settings of slaves have to be done POINT TO POINT (it is not a network tool). According to the type of the discovered node, only functions corresponding to this node type are displayed. In case of wrong actions, error messages are displayed to warn the tool’s user. A backlighting of the display can be activated in case of dark environment.
