The Xingyi staff keeps consistent with Xingyiquan in the use of "three driving force." It uses the waist as the axis, the fulcrum and the source of power. It is similar to the principle of using a lever to amplify force; its movements are not in big frame, because it prefers the movements to be agile and easy to change, quick, strong and firm. Applying force from the waist can inflict heavy injuries on the opponent's bones and nerves rather than skin and muscle.
