Victorian Trade Card - Arbuckle Brothers Coffee Company - Birds - BULLFINCH (#51) (damaged)
SERIES: Birds and Miscellany
This is one of a series of 50 cards issued by Arbuckles' in the 1880's depicting birds (#51-#69) and other miscellaneous subjects (#70-#100), and advertising their "Ariosa" coffee. Although the bird isn't identified on the card, I would identify it as a Bullfinch.
The back shows the Arbuckles' factory buildings, dock, railroad cars, and a steam ship.
SIZE: 5" x 3"
DATE: Not dated, but likely late 1880s
LITHOGRAPHER: Not identified
CONDITION: Just fair, I'd say, but perhaps it can serve as a space-filler in your collection until a better copy comes along. The card is a bit soiled and there are long creases running vertically along the right margin and horizontally at about the middle of the card. There's a small tear in the right margin where the two creases meet. The front has a small blob of extraneous paper stuck to it near the bottom center, and the back has a large patch of surface paper loss where the card was apparently ripped from a scrapbook.
