Tourmaline of all colors except for Paraiba (due to new
finds) have risen in price over the past few years by as
much as 500%, especially in nicer quality stones over
1-2 carat sizes because there is less and less facet
grade rough coming out of Brazil right now because
they have been mining tourmaline so heavily in Brazil
for the past 50 years that they are finally running out.
I guess it is just going to get chalked up as another
non-renewable resource that we thought would never
end.
