Antique Winter Landscape Painting Forest River F.W. DeVoe Academy Board AS-IS
Welcome! PLEASE NOTE: This painting is offered unframed, AS-IS. Some of the photos have been enhanced to show more detail of the painting, but the darker photos are more representative of true condition of the painting, which is very dark. The painting is covered with decades of grime and soot, which have darkened it a lot, even darker than shown in the photos. There are many scattered white specks and streaks, which may be indicative of paint losses. The corners are softened. The edges that were under the original frame show some of the original color. The surface is weathered, almost like sandpaper, probably from exposure to heat and cold. Despite all that, it is still an interesting Americana or pioneering image. But it is in need of some cleaning and restoration.
With that said, presenting an antique oil on F.W. DeVoe Academy board winter landscape painting of a forest with bare trees on either side of a churning river, with a low mountain in the background and a pink sunrise. At the lower left foreground is an image of what appears to be a man on horseback pushing a log or dugout canoe toward the river. The painting appears to be unsigned, but is it so weathered and dirty that there may be a signature that can't be seen in its present condition. It measures 13 1/2 inches wide by 12 inches long.
