MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN COLLECTING OLD TIME RADIO SHOWS FOR A LONG TIME NOW. HE LISTENS TO THEM WHILE HE IS WORKING IN THE DARKROOM.
WE THOUGHT WE WOULD SHARE THEM WITH OTHERS SO THEY COULD ENJOY THEM ALSO.
The classic series, Murder at Midnight, offers stories of the "witching hour, when night is darkest, our fears are the strongest, our strength at its lowest ebb -- MIDNIGHT! When the graves gape open and death strikes!" Listeners perked their ears from 1946 to 1947. After a period of rest, the show resumed again in 1950 to tell grave stories of death bydeath DEATH!
Murder at Midnight often borrowed scripts from the show Inner Sanctum. Top writers, who also worked for the show Bulldog Drummond, make the program intensely chilling and excitingly real! Be sure to slip a mitten over that hand of yours so you don’t bite your fingernails to the BONE!
Murder Clinic, the WOR-Mutual series which brought you each week one exciting case; one member from the special branch
of the worldâs great detectives. Each week on Murder Clinic another detective story from another well-known mystery writer was adapted for broadcast. Fans of the so-called Golden Age of Detection should certainly sit up and take notice at the veritable cornucopia of delights that were heard during the year and a few months that the program was on the air. Every week another story by an author such as Edgar Wallace, Ngaio Marsh, Carter Dickson (John Dickson
Carr), Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham, G. K. Chesterton, Jacques Futrelle, Stuart Palmer, and (as we discovered) on and on.
Masters of Mystery John Dickson Carr (author of Cabin B-13)and Brett Halliday among others hosted Murder by Expect. They were some of the top writers in the history of mystery and the show exhibits some of the best mystery writing known on radio. The show’s success is based largely on it expert writing, rather than empty star talent."John" Dickson Carr is best known for writing complicated plot twists and plenty of gore. He preferred not to write in a genteel style, but rather choose a sensational style with a smart plot design. He had a flare for supernatural settings and even some slapstick comedy when appropriate. His books sold over millions of copies worldwide and in 17 different languages. Davis Dresser worked under the name Brett Halliday. He lost one of his eyes in barbed wire while growing up in Texas and wore an eye patch for the remainder of his life. His best-known work featured the private detective Michael Shayne and Halliday was equally as prolific as Carr.
THERE ARE 47 SHOWS ON 1 CD AND THEY ARE IN MP3 FORMAT. THEY WILL PLAY ON ANY COMPUTER AND SOME CD PLAYERS THAT ARE MARKED PLAYS MP3s. YOU CAN EASILY BURN THEM TO A CD SO YOU CAN PLAY ON YOUR CAR SYSTEM. I HAVE THEM ON MY ZUNE AND ONE OF MY FRIENDS HAS THEM ON HIS I-POD. REMEMBER THEY ARE IN MP3 FORMAT AND WILL NOT PLAY ON MOST CD PLAYERS.
