Sweet alyssum, Lobularia maritima, is a common annual flower plant. Lobularia maritima is a mat-forming annual or short-lived perennial native to the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and Azores, where it grows along the coast in rocky, sunny areas.
Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. Or, direct sow while some danger of light frost still exists. It's very easy, either way.
The plants do best in full sun but can also survive in partial shade. Make sure your sweet alyssum gets at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. Water sweet alyssum sparingly.
