Eryngium planum is a robust perennial with a striking appearance. Tall branched stems bear cone-like blue flower heads with spiky bracts throughout summer and autumn. A very versatile plant, great for attracting wildlife, drought tolerant, resistant to rabbits and deer.
Eryngium planum thrives in full sun in dry, sandy, well-drained soils. The sunnier the site, the more intense the blue! Tolerates poor soils. Avoid planting this plant in moist and fertile soils, where it will tend to sprawl and may require support.
Expect germination in 12-20 days. No need to prechill E. planum; sow it at 68-70° and expect germination in 10-15 days. Both species can be sown outdoors in early spring through summer, up to two months before first frost.. . . . .364011236414!]
