Red Russian Kale is not only tasty but also one of the most attractive edible varieties. Its blue/green leaves that are tinged with a reddish purple contracts beautifully with the purple stems. A mildly flavoured Kale that can be picked when young and tender and eaten as a salad vegetable or allowed to mature and even the older leaves maintain their tenderness. Red Russian Kale is so versatile it can be grown as a nutritious micro-green, picked as a baby leaf or the large leaves eaten as a vegetable. Growing to maturity in approx. 60 days Kale is a primitive leaf vegetable. 'Red Russian' is one of the most popular varieties; it grows to 75cm at a fast rate and has blue/green/red tinged serrated leaves with red veins. The young leaves are eaten raw like lettuce, the old leaves cooked like cabbage. Has a sweet flavour.
