The plant forms a bush that can reach 2 meters in height. The foliage is deciduous in regions where the winter is cold but it resists temperatures down to -15° provided it is sheltered from cold winds. The abundant flowering consists of pinkish-red flowers, in the shape of drooping trumpets, grouped in spikes at the end of the bare branches which overcome the bright green foliage.
