Quisqualis indica is a particularly impressive tropical vine cultivated and naturalized in many tropical areas.Quisqualis indica can reach 20 meters in the wild, but in cultivation it usually does not exceed 8 meters in length.
The leaves are simple, opposite, entire, oblong to elliptical with an acuminate apex and rounded base, they are 7 to 15 cm long and are very ribbed.
Inflorescences in axillary and drooping terminal clusters. The flowers with a long tubular corolla and five petals change color over a period of three days, the different colors are visible on the same cluster. The first day the flower is white, then it turns pink, dark pink, bright red or purple red.
Seeds 12 to 15 mm long are pentagonal (carambola-shaped, star fruit) and they are almost black
