Bignonia capreolata syn. Doxantha capreolata is a hardy, fast-growing evergreen vine native to the southeastern United States (understory areas in Missouri, Tennessee, and Virginia). It can reach 6 meters in height
Leaves opposite, compound, shiny green with four leaflets, of which the two farthest from the petiole, in the form of tendrils with suction cups, allow the plant to cling on its own. Foliage takes on bronze-purple tones in cold weather. The plant is persistent down to around -10°C, below it loses its leaves to redo them in the spring.
Early flowering in trumpets, 5cm, brick-red with a yellow heart in April-May, emerging in dense clusters in the leaf axils. These flowers give off a delicious fragrance of coffee and cocoa.
Fruit in the form of pods of about fifteen centimeters, in the fall.
