MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN COLLECTING OLD TIME RADIO SHOWS FOR A LONG TIME NOW. HE LISTENS TO THEM WHILE HE IS WORKING IN THE DARKROOM.
WE THOUGHT WE WOULD SHARE THEM WITH OTHERS SO THEY COULD ENJOY THEM ALSO.
"The Sealed Book", a horror anthology series broadcast both on the Mutual network (from March to September 1945) and in syndication, is a particularly excellent example of how radio was able to recycle old scripts for new programs. Writers Robert A. Arthur and David Kogan took some of the same scripts they had previously written for another Mutual horror anthology, "The Mysterious Traveler" and, under the supervision of producer-director Jock MacGregor (and with Philip Clarke as host-narrator), provided "The Sealed Book" with enough material for twenty-six spine-tingling shows. Since radio programs could not enjoy the luxury of 'repeats' from which television programs later benefited, the deception often went unnoticed by audiences.
"The Sealed Book" would open with sinister laughter and a gong, as 'the Keeper of the Book' would unlock "the ponderous volume in which are recorded all the secrets and mysteries of mankind through the ages." The Keeper would then use the half-hour allotted to him by telling "tales of every kind -- tales of murder, tales of madness, of dark deeds and events strange beyond all belief." The stories frequently centered on individuals of great wealth who were just about to shuffle off this mortal coil, and their greedy heirs and/or relatives who were always looking for an opportunity to, shall we say, speed them on their journey to the Great Beyond.
THERE ARE 25 Episodes ON 1 CD AND THEY ARE IN MP3 FORMAT. THEY WILL PLAY ON ANY COMPUTER AND SOME CD PLAYERS THAT ARE MARKED PLAYS MP3s. YOU CAN EASILY BURN THEM TO A CD SO YOU CAN PLAY ON YOUR CAR SYSTEM. I HAVE THEM ON MY ZUNE AND ONE OF MY FRIENDS HAS THEM ON HIS I-POD. REMEMBER THEY ARE IN MP3 FORMAT AND WILL NOT PLAY ON MOST CD PLAYERS.
