From the jacket: To save you time and insure colorful blooms in your home greenhouse, Mr. McDonald has written this useful book that covers the selection of a greenhouse and its maintenance, as well as the handling of plants. The material was in cluded on the basis of 1000 questionnaires sent to readers of Under Glass magazine inquiring what information was most useful to home-greenhouse owners.
After an introduction telling "How to Realize Your Greenhouse Dreams," there are twelve concise chapters, one for each month, which make timely suggestions for operating a greenhouse. Each chapter begins with a commentary on the month's highlights, discusses what to do each weekend of the month, and ends with reference lists telling what blooms that month, what dividing and repotting is to be done, what cuttings are to be made, and what bulbs and seeds are to be planted.
The cultural requirements (for example, temperature, soil, when to repot) of 124 genera are given in detail, with full description of the flowers and with emphasis on the time and duration of bloom.
Concluding this indispensable guide to greenhouse gardening are Lists for Ready Reference enumerating such things as Plants for a Cool Greenhouse, Plants for a Moderate-to-Warm Greenhouse, Ever-blooming Greenhouse Plants, and additional listings of periodicals, supplies, and plant sources for greenhouses. Line Drawings by Kathleen Bourke
