My Family, Right or Wrong by John Philip Sousa, III Doubleday, Doran & Co 1943 First Edition

Title: My Family, Right or Wrong

Author: John Philip Sousa, III

Format: Hardcover

Publisher: Doubleday, Doran & Co 1943

Edition: First Edition

Size: 5.5 X 8.25 * 216 pages

Synopsis: From the Jacket: MY FAMILY, RIGHT OR WRONG is a family portrait as outrageous as a surrealist painting of the Sousa family who normally functioned like a three-ring circus and were known to do even better with a little encouragement from the gallery.

Here they are: Pop-wanted to run everything; he was an honorary deputy sheriff, attended all fires, usually arriving well ahead of the fire department, was chairman of the annual tennis tournament, and gave away the Ford car at the street dance, much to the disgust of the church ladies who had imported a movie star to do the honors. When
he wasn't too busy running things he hunted and fished. Small children were his pet peeve and he was always threatening to "put a bullet into one of them." One Halloween he very nearly did. He also mixed a mean orange blossom.

Mrs. Sousa-first conceived the idea of moving to Chilapa, California, because the children needed new winter overcoats; she thought it was "cheaper to transport them to a warmer climate than to shelter them against a cold one." She absent-mindedly signed checks by her married name, her maiden name, or the name of the person to whom she had been talking. The bank got in the habit of "accepting almost anything that looked like her handwriting." She ran the house with an iron hand but in a manner somewhat resembling a Rube Goldberg cartoon.

Nancy-was the youngest of the children and was "thought-repellent, much as a raincoat is waterproof." While she went to the movies Pop did her homework and she usually got up in the middle of meals to take a shower. Summer and winter she slept in a raccoon coat. We could go on but...

We would have liked to call this "Stars and Stripes Forever" because the author, of course, is the grandson of the world-famous March King. But there is no mention at all of the old boy (a break for him), and the only thing musical here is the number of laughs to a page. So far we haven't been able to find out a great deal about the author except that he doesn't an- swer mail from his publishers. In his middle twenties, John Philip Sousa, III, works in Time's Washington office.

Overall Condition: Good + It has very minimal wear to the cover and no holes or tears. The dust jacket is not included. The binding has minimal wear. The pages are undamaged with no creasing or tearing, no pencil underlining of text, no highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. There are no missing pages; see images.
