What is useful pectin?
Pectin belongs to the group of soluble dietary fiber and has a pronounced ability to bind water and form high viscosity solutions, as well as the ability to bind bile acids in the intestine. Pectin fully fermented under the effect of microbes in the large intestine as opposed to insoluble cellulose. These properties of pectin and determine the benefits of its adoption.
Studies in Bulgaria with high esterified apple pectin showed that application in the diets of patients with disorders of lipid metabolism lowers the concentration of cholesterol in the blood by 5-18%. This correlates with the effect of pectin on the excretion (discharge) of bile acids, viscosity properties, as well as a number of other mechanisms. It was found that the pectin reduced increased levels of "bad" cholesterol and triglyceride, without reducing the level of beneficial cholesterol in high density lipoproteins. Pectin also reduces the rise in blood sugar after carbohydrate intake, which is connected with its effect to delay gastric emptying.
Viscosity properties of the pectin have to slow down the process of digestion and gastric emptying. This increases the feeling of satiety and may reduce food intake.

Those physiological properties of pectin are the basis for its use in the dietary management of dyslipidemia (increased total cholesterol, increased "bad" cholesterol, increased triglycerides in the blood); for inclusion in diets, applied in obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes. It can be used in the prevention of atherosclerosis, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and formation of gallstones. Amounts used should consult with a specialist dietician.

Dosage:
For direct consumption - 1 tea spoon of the product dissolved in 50ml liquid (water, milk, juice) and consumed 30 min before meals.
