The late George G. Goodwin, former Associate Curator of Mammals, American Museum of Natural History, contributed fascinating natural histories that accurately describe the animals' physical appearance, origin, range, habitat, habits, tracks, mating behavior, birth and early development.
Illustrations are varied and rich. The full-page, full-color paintings of each animal in its natural surroundings are by Douglas Allen, noted wildlife artist, who also contributed many fine drawings that illustrate O'Connor's hunting adventures. Scientific portraits of the animals are by American Museum of Natural History artist Alexander Seidel. Other museum artists have contributed informative close-up studies of anatomical details and animal tracks as well as up-to-date range maps.
Jack O'Connor was born in Tempe, Arizona, and learned to hunt in the hill country near his home. Since then he has stalked game across North America, and in India, Africa, and Iran. He served as gun editor of Outdoor Life for nearly thirty-five years and, in addition to his popular monthly column, contributed many major articles about his hunting adventures. He has written a dozen books on hunting and shooting.

There is no obvious damage to the cover and the dust jacket with some wear and tears is included. There are no missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no underlining/highlighting of text or writing in the margins. It may have very minimal identifying marks on the inside cover as well as very minimal wear and tear; see images.
