HISTORY ASPECTS:
In 2007, the BAe Harrier GR7A, with the distinct tail number ZD437/49A and the affectionate nickname 'Michelle,' played a pivotal role in Operation Herrick during the RAF No.1 Squadron's deployment to RAF Kandahar in Afghanistan. As part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), the Harrier GR7A operated in the challenging terrain of Afghanistan, demonstrating its versatility and adaptability in providing close air support and reconnaissance missions.
The Harrier GR7A's deployment during Operation Herrick marked a critical phase in the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan. The aircraft's vertical takeoff and landing capabilities allowed it to operate from makeshift forward operating bases and even unprepared surfaces, providing crucial air support to ground troops engaged in counterinsurgency efforts. The ability to hover and strike precisely made the Harrier a valuable asset in the complex and dynamic environment of Afghanistan.
Aviation enthusiasts and collectors alike can now own a detailed replica of this iconic aircraft, honoring the bravery and operational achievements of the RAF No.1 Squadron during Operation Herrick. This 1:48 scale model captures the unique features of the Harrier GR7A and serves as a reminder of its important role in modern military history.
