  • Description
This handmade pottery statue features a Nakhi girl carrying a basket on her back. The graceful and hard-working Narshi girls, living in Yunnan, go out to work in the morning everyday. Putting her hands on her chin, and screaming out, there must be someting frighten her.

300,000 Nakhi people live at the juncture of Yunnan, Sichuan provinces and Tibet Autonomous Region, and most of them live in Lijiang of Yunnan province.

Naxi or Nakhi ethnic group has its own particular culture, called Dongba Culture. Our Nakhi artist combined the elements of Nakhi Goddess worship and Dongba scripts in the designs of Dongba pottery. The designs are traditional yet striking and meaningful. Most of the designs features Nakhi goddess, tribal motifs, and Dongba scripts. The making process is purely by hand.

The Dongba scripts, also known as Tomba or Dto-mba is a pictographic writing system used by the ancient Nakhi preists. It is about a thousand years old, and the only ideographic writing system in use today. Used solely as an aid to the interpretation of ritual texts during ceremonies.
