EAPG Tumbler Early Red Block Glass Mug ca 1886-1893

For your consideration is a wonderful early pressed glass tumbler that was made into a mug with the addition of a handle. According to Tom Bredehoft in his book titled GLASS TUMBLERS 1860s TO 1920s, Identification and Value Guide, this pattern is called Red Block. It is crystal with a ruby stain. The top is fire polished. The bottom has a 6-point star. This particular mug is 3 1/8" tall; top is 2 1/2"; bottom is 2 1/2". He says that the original pattern "was made in 1886 by Doyle & Co. and called No. 250. It was copied almost exactly by Fostoria Glass Co. of Fostoria, Ohio, and called Virginia. In 1893, United States Glass Co. reissued Doyle's No. 250." Since the measurements are not the ones given for the Doyle piece, I would say that this one was made by either Fostoria or United States Glass. It is in excellent vintage condition except for some ruby rubbing and a few small chips as shown in the photo on one of the blocks. That is the largest one. The others are barely noticeable.
