This 45 is by Anne Young, the Wife of IRA LOUVIN, who died in a car accident in 1965. This record was released in 1957, and pre-dates their marriage by a few years. It also pre-dates the brief time period that Ira Louvin and Anne performed together before her death.
This 45 was released on the great MAR-VEL label, the label that fostered an exploding Rockabilly and Country music scene in the Hammond, Indiana area. The Mar-Vel label was started by record genius HARRY GLENN, who made these records during his off time from his job as a welder. Although this is a great record, it did not sell well in 1957 and few of these were ever made. Consequently it is a very hard to find and highly sought-after record, which hardly ever turns up for sale.
This is an original pressing on the maroon and silver label. Both sides have a very traditional Country sound, with lots of steel guitar and fiddle, and the BRANDED side was written by legendary Grand Ole Opry star ROD BRASFIELD. The record label on this side reads “WSM Nashville, Tenn.” under Rod’s name.
This 45 is exceptionally clean and retains most of its original glossy luster. It looks like it has always been kept inside a paper sleeve and rarely handled. Even under a lamp the grooves show no visible scuffs or scratches and the record looks like it has hardly been played. There is a small amount of light superficial surface marking in a few of the dead wax areas. It would be difficult to ever find a nicer looking copy of this super rare record. The record plays with ticks, which is probably the result of the quality of the low budget vinyl used to press it.
