The great Roman Empire was at the peak of its military excellence, and under the leadership of Augustus Caesar, it was believed that no power was stronger than Rom. Then out of the foreign land of Judea, came a man who challenged Rome's military might without lifting a sword. Jesus of Nazareth, armed only with his faith in love, peace and the will of God, changed the course of world history and the thinking of generations of people to come"Cornelius the Centurion" traces this important period in world history and religion through a fictional account of the life of a Roman boy, Cornelius, who was born on the same night as Jesus. Unlike Jesus, Cornelius was raised among the Roman aristocracy. His training from childhood prepared him exclusively for a military career. The rewards for an accomplished soldier were many, including money, prestige and security for one's family. Cornelius felt as sure as his father, Marcus, did that his life would be devoted to a Roman military career and the welfare of his family. Then one day, news of an impending rebellion in the province of Judea reached Rome. Cornelius was requested to accompany Pontius Pilate to Judea as his Centurion, in order to investigate the source of unrest. It was In Judea that Cornelius witnessed the greed of the Temple Lords, who aimed to destroy a carpenter's son called Jesus because he preached about enlightening the people. It was there also that Cornelius met Jesus, and he began to understand that self-satisfaction does not rest upon militaristic and materialistic gains, but that there is the promise of inner peace for all men who have a living faith in God. In a vivid and emotionally charged moment at Calvary, Cornelius, having met this man, Jesus, who opened blind eyes and freed the people through faith, made his great confession. Then, Cornelius refused to accept the highest position available to a Roman soldier and, rather, followed his heart into the faith of Jesus and of God. Cornelius remembered the words of Jesus, "Some will believe and others will doubt." Cornelius choose to believe.Visit my eCRATER Store for other great books and save on shipping!
